Environmental author Bill McKibben will speak at 11 am in the Town Hall Theater August 1, Sunday: Town Meeting with Senator Bernie Sanders, Woodstock Union High School, free dinner 5:30 pm, meeting 6:00 pm. Discuss what we can do locally, and in Washington, to provide health care to all; create green jobs and reduce our carbon footprint; make higher education more affordable; protect the most vulnerable in our society

Sustainable Woodstock Seeks Director

Sustainable Woodstock, a nonprofit organization located in Woodstock, Vermont, seeks a part-time Director for a newly launched organization committed to building a sustainable local environment, community, and economy.


Responsibilities

The Director will have day-to-day responsibility for supporting an energetic, volunteer-led organization, and building it into a replicable model of how small towns and villages can respond creatively to the challenges of global climate change. Reporting to the board of directors, the director’s key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting and sustaining volunteer activities by helping their action groups develop a sense of community and achieve their goals.
  • Engaging broad community involvement and support by communicating and working collaboratively with local government and other relevant organizations.
  • Providing thought leadership by communicating a clear vision of how to make a difference, offering informed perspectives on relevant issues, and keeping up with research, trends, and best practices.
  • Ensuring the organization’s continued viability by writing grants and soliciting funds from government, foundations, and individual supporters.

Qualifications

The individual we seek will be:

  • A flexible, energetic, and independent self-starter who gets things done and has a track record of achievement.
  • A collaborative team player who works well with others, seeks and absorbs feedback, and can manage interpersonal and intergroup issues sensitively.
  • An effective communicator, preferably with experience organizing and working with all-volunteer groups and in community development.

The position is grant-funded for three days weekly, with an annual salary in the range of $30,000-$35,000 and a partial subsidy for health-care benefits. Applicants should submit a letter of interest and resume by August 14 to: sustainablewoodstock@gmail.com.
